The Metaphysical Painture of Matteo Lama
(by Prof. Dr. Orazio Tanelli)
The artist Matteo Lama, quite famous in the outline of contemporary painting, lives in Lido Adriano (Ravenna).
His original and authentic painting contains statuesque and giant figures, set on a mystery, dreamy background.
At first sight, the portrayed characters offer a mythological appearance, that evokes an ancient epic or a holy scripture, where the hieratic and liturgical aspect assumes new and modern features.
For example: “A metà aurorae” represents three horses, pulling at high speed a biga (two-wheeled chariot) on a stormy sea. On the biga stands a sturdy knight, against a bluish background with two globes of huge proportions.
The other works sent to us, show the thematic components of a metaphysical world, the nostalgia of dream, the certainty of transcendental values.
In “Parole silenti” (silent words) there’s a winged angel, half naked, who reads on a book the mystery of life, his right forefinger pointed on the page.
On a clear and arcane background appear some planets.
“Narciso”, the mythological character who falls in love with his own image, reflected in the stream, is represented by Matteo Lama with two similar standing figures, half naked, staring at each other, on a wonderful background, filled with auroral clouds.
Then come “Eone”, “Gemellai Koiné”, “Da astri scrutai”, “Logos”, “Prospettiva metacosmica” , “Amor etereo”.
His poetics is precisely named “Metacosmica”: It was founded by him and is developed and constantly renovated in order to clarify his kind of pictorial research.
Under the influence of Hellenistic culture, Matteo Lama creates artistic metamorphosis of great importance and with experienced masterly skill of signs and colour.
His world is an oneiric, reverie world which doesn’t exclude neither despises the love and beauty of nature.
Matteo Lama is able to mix together Classic and Modern world, by a poetical synthesis that reaches figurative levels of great talent in the world of metaphysics and of metempsychosis.
Really an excellent artist!
